NPL Round 2

YOUTH

All Bears youth games against Football North Coast were washed out.

SENIORS

On a rain-affected round two only the first grade fixture between Weston and Magic went ahead at Magic Park.

Kicking off at 6:00pm in very gusty conditions Weston were at a distinct disadvantage running into a strong wind.

Magic straight away assumed the ascendancy and began to control the game creating a number of half-chances. For the Bears new goalkeeper, Kane Runge, in was straight into the frying fan and he was impressive from the beginning.

Weston grew into the game started to create space and opportunities of their own. Well worked chances fell to both Thompson brothers and Jake Milsteed.

With Weston now in the ascendency their player were coming in for some special treatment and there was real concern when James Thompson fell awkwardly from a tackle from behind right on half time. 0-0 at oranges.

The second half started well for both sides and it was Weston who were looking dangerous again.

Weston had another golden chance but Jamie Byrne's header was well saved. The next phase of play saw Magic build well. A back post cross was headed across goal to be forced in at close range. 1-0 Magic.

The game continued to move from end to end with the Bears continuing to create. However, the 65th minute saw Jordan Jackson see red after trying to halt a Magic counter.

Another golden chance in the 74th minute went begging as the ball was fired across goal but Jacob Golding just couldn’t get a touch.

Although down to 10 Weston were very much still in the game but Magic began to control the possession and the introduction of Peter Haynes saw him become the focal point of their attack.

A late charge to goal by Weston saw an injury to Jacob Golding and from the restart Magic broke to score the clincher and round the game out 2-0.
