Both the Bears and Edgeworth have over the years shared a strong rivalry and many games have gone down to the wire with just the odd goal deciding the winner.

The Bears lack of discipline this season cost them again when they had to do without the services of Luke Walker. Walker accumulated a suspension for excessive yellow cards and Matt Toohey was also suspended after he had no choice other than to commit a foul and earn a red card against South Cardiff last week.

Edgeworth looked the better from the kick off and controlled the majority of play while the Bears appeared flat and spent most of the first 20mins defending their own goal.

Rhys Tippett (right) made his starting return from injury and he provided the spark the Bears required in the 23rd min. r tippettTippet fought hard to gain the ball and sprint 50mtrs towards the Edgeworth goal. The defence were kicking at the ankles and shoving Tippett all the way but he held his composure to round the keeper only to see his attempt on goal hit the side netting.

Tippett was at it again in the 30th min when he out muscled the defence and played Mick Ryan into a 1 on 1 with the Edgeworth keeper. Ryan chose to pull the trigger instead of rounding the keeper and the shot sailed high over the bar.

The 2 chances missed became costly in the 41st min when former Soccerroo Sean Babic was allowed far too much space and time. Babic executed a spectacular scissor kick from 6 yards out to put the Bears 0-1 down.

The 2nd half saw Edgeworth again control the majority of the play. j cowburnJason Cowburn (left) had the first real chance of the half when he did extremely well to control an over hit through ball but his volley on goal was shot over the bar and into the Members Stand.

Things got worse for the Bears after 66 mins when Edgeworth broke through the Bears defence to lead the Bears 0-2.

Nathan Morris was once again causing the opposition keeper nightmares with his free kicks. Tippetts injury was causing him grief but he made a great effort to get on the end of a Morris free kick with a diving header but again the effort was unsuccessful.

Tippett injured himself further in the 71st min when he was again denied by the keeper tipping the ball over the bar for a corner. Mick Holt almost caught the Edgeworth keeper by surprise with his curling corner forcing a last second save. Tippets injury become too much and he had to be replaced.

Jason Cowburn had a chance to make the scoreboard look more respectable in the 88th min but his header was wide of the mark and the match ended 0-2.

The Bears had plenty of chances on goal but it was Edgeworth who had the better of the play and deserved the 0-2 win.

U/23's had to share the spoils for the 8th time this season with a 1-1 draw. Goal scorer was Luke Campbell.

U/18's lost 2-3. Nick Thompson and Daniel Robinson (right) found the net for the young Bears.

Next week the Bears travel to Valentine to take on the 2nd placed Valentine Phoenix. First Grade kicks off at 2:30pm.
