The first chance of the game came in the 13th min. Some strong work from Callum Penglaze saw him win the ball and play Jason Cowburn into a goal scoring opportunity. Cowburn placed his shot across the keeper but unfortunately his shot sailed wide of the Edgeworth goal.

Jason Cowburn was in the middle of the action again in the 27th min when an Edgeworth mix up handed him the ball 35 mtrs from goal. With 2 defenders to beat Cowburn chose to chip the keeper who was back peadling into his goal. Cowburn once again failed to hit the target and the scores remained level.

Although the match was still being evenly contested all the main attacking opportunities were going the way of the Bears. Jason Cowburn was covering plenty of ground in the hot conditions but it was starting to look like it wasn’t his day when he had another near miss in the 33rd min. This time it was from a well taken free kick that narrowly missed the bottom corner of the Edgeworth goal.

Edgeworth started to dominate the game and they almost struck the first blow in the 38th min via a rocket of a free kick that sailed just over the bar.

The 42nd min was when Edgeworth should have taken the lead. Bears keeper Sam Parkinson was beaten from a sharp angle but luckily for the Bears the ball bounced harmlessly along the front of goal to Carl Thornton who cleared it to safety.

Sam Parkinson made a fantastic reflex save from a well struck Edgeworth free kick in the 52nd min.

Poor marking has been a problem all year and it once again cost the Bears in the 53rd min when Edgeworth took the lead via a well taken header 0-1.

Some great build up by the Bears saw them almost draw level in 57th min. Rhys Tippett looked certain to score but his header was miss directed and pushed wide of the goal.

Bears defence again allowed the Edgeworth strikers far too much space in the 59th min but luckily the diving header was wide of the mark.

The game was now getting worse for the Bears with Edgeworth dominating the play. It was looking like it was a case of “not if but when” would Edgeworth score and they should have done just that in the 61st min but the shot was wide.

Some poor defending helped Edgeworth seal the victory and also the Minor Premiership with a further 2 goals in the 67th and 68th mins to end any hopes that the Bears may have had.

It was no surprise that Bears supporters were pleased to hear the referee blow the final whistle and call an end to what has been one of the worst seasons in recent memory.

U/23’s ended the season with their 13th draw 1-1 and 4 points out side semi finals. Teenager Max Wallington found the net with a well taken goal. The goal capped of a strong season for Max that has seen him make several appearances in the top grade.

U/18’s ended their season with a 0-2 loss.

Season 2009 has been one of disappointment and planning is well underway for what will no doubt be a successful 2010 that will hopefully see the Bears once again hold the cup aloft in their 103rd season.
