The Bears defence almost gifted West Wallsend a goal in the 24th min but luckily the mistake didn't lead to a goal.
Luke Johnson played a wonderful ball to find Jamie Subat in the 26th min. Subat again beat the defender out on the left flank and cut the ball back into the West Wallsend six yard box but again the lack of Bears attackers made it easy pickings for the West Wallsend defenders.
The next 5 mins of play saw both sides squander what would be considered clear cut chances. The first chance fell to West Wallsend (27th min), the Bears were the next to rue a missed opportunity (28th min) when Mick Ryan made a great run and attempted to get onto a through ball but Ryan hesitated and the keeper cleared. Finally the referee thought he would get in on the act (31st min) and denied the Bears what was a certain penalty after a West Wallsend defender handballed an attempted shot.
The remainder of the half was less hectic and the Bears took a deserved 1-0 lead into the sheds at half time.
West Wallsend should have equalised straight after the break but their 48th min 1 on 1 was missed.
First Robbie Turnbull and then Rob McBeth looked certain to extend the lead but somehow failed to find the net after some good lead up work and a fine ball from Mick Ryan in the 50th min.
With almost every way to miss a goal being displayed in the game so far, it was no surprise to see another opportunity be completely botched up with a shot being shanked over the bar by a West Wallsend attacker in the 59th min.
After so much poor finishing someone had to get it right and unfortunately for the Bears it was West Wallsend when former Bear Todd McManus climb above the Bears defence and glanced his header home from a well taken free kick in the 60th min.

Mick Ryan made a great run in the 85th min and got himself into a 1 on 1 with the keeper but again the chance went begging.
Only 1 min later it was Robby Turnbull who found himself running at the West Wallsend keeper before crossing to Rob McBeth. McBeth laid the ball off to Mick Ryan but the chance ended like so many before and the scores remained level.
West Wallsend had a great chance to kill off the Bears in the final minute of regulation time but surprise, surprise they missed aswell.
In a game of so many missed chances it took till the 94th min for the biggest miss to occur.
