The 1st half failed to provide much entertainment for the small crowd. Both sides had half chances but failed to beat the opposition keepers and the score stayed 0-0 at the half time break.
The Bears defence failure to clear the ball has cost a goal on more than a few occasions this season and this would prove to be the downfall once again when West Wallsend pounced on a loose ball to take a 0-1 lead.
West Wallsend then ended the Bears hopes of making back to back Semi Final series when Ex Bear Todd McManus caught Bears keeper Tim Pratt off guard with a long range dipping volley to make the score 0-2.
Mick Ryan gave the Bears some hope of rescuing a draw with 10 mins remaining, Ryan placed his 25mt curling shot into the bottom corner of the goal to make the scores 1-2.
Mick Ryan looked certain to salvage the Bears an unlikely draw just 2mins later when he out jumped the West Wallsend defence to get onto another Nathan Morris pinpoint free kick. Ryan headed down into the ground from just 3mts out but his header bounced high over the bar instead of under it so the open goal went begging. The score remained at 1-2 when the referee blew the whistle to end the match and also the hopes of the supporters for season 2009.
U/23's could possibly be inline for a record of sorts when they racked up their 11th draw of the season. The match was very physical and both sides were lucky to have the full compliment of players remain on the park after an old fashioned brawl broke out late in the 2nd half. Kurt Tinicliffe and Max Wallington found the net for the Bears.
U/18's broke through for a well earned 2-1 win. The win was a great result for the young Bears who have fought on through a tough season to date. Paxton Kelly was the man of the moment scoring a brace.
An incident in the U/18's saw a young West Wallsend player require an ambulance to take him to hospital for further tests. Weston Bears FC as a club would like to wish the player a speedy recovery.
Next week the Bears travel to Toronto to take on Toronto Awaba. Pride is at stake for the Bears side as a win would give the Bears an 11 point buffer between them and last placed Toronto Awaba.
C'MON YOU BEARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
