Central defender Carl Thornton and central midfielder Nathan Morris have been named in a 17 man NBN select team to play against the Newcastle Jets.
The game will be played on Saturday 24th September at Darling Street Oval, Hamilton.
The selection of Carl and Nathan is a just reward for both players who had played a major role in the Bears successful 2011 season. It will be the second time these players have faced the Jets this year and the Club congratulates them on their selection.
The sporting and general community have lost one of it’s best with the passing of John Wolinski.
John, a Life Member at the Weston Bears and long time club trainer, had fought illness for the past 13 months.
A superb clubman, John became involved at Weston over 20 years ago along with his son Aaron who was playing junior super league at the Club. That was the beginning of a 20-year relationship as trainer and masseur. John also worked with Northern NSW representative squads through those years.
John was from a rugby League background and has also been honoured with life membership by Maitland Rugby League.
His wonderful personality and presence will be greatly missed.
From everyone connected with the Weston Bears we extend our deepest condolences to John’s wife Carole, daughter Jane and sons Aaron and Daniel.
The Bears U15s took on Valentine today in the U15s Grand Final. As premiership winners the young Bears were looking to close out their season at Thomas & Coffey Park and in a tight match they went down 2-1.
On behalf of everyone at the Club, thank you and congratulations on your efforts this year in the black and white stripes.
