Highlights of the Jets / Phoenix match on SBS's 'The World Game'.

On Saturday our club hosted a pre season game between the Newcastle Jets and Wellington Phoenix. To say it went well would be the understatement of the year.

The game certainly had its moments; with the end result a positive one for the Jets and another step in their pre season build up.

For our club, it was fantastic to be given the opportunity to host this match but it is the way it was done that needs to be addressed.

Firstly, thank you to everyone involved in organising, preparing and working on the day. Without your help it wouldn't have happened. It wasn't about just hosting the game, there was a real desire from everyone to make it a successful event for football and our community.

To those; working on the gate, serving food, at drinks outlets, ball boys / girls, in the canteen, meeting and greeting and ground officials, your efforts were outstanding and did not go un-noticed. The general comment around the ground was "how good is this!"

Secondly, thank you to David Eland and Northern NSW Football for their decision to bring games such as Jets V Phoenix to our region and community. It was great to see David at the game supporting the night.

Lastly… what about the pitch!

ground

Neil Fellows, take a bow mate. The ground looked superb and drew compliments all night. To provide a surface that good, at this stage of a season, is remarkable.

Above all else, the provision of a class surface to play on was essential - after all, that’s the players’ workplace and Neil, assisted by Bluey Whyburn, nailed it!

Thank you guys.

Again, to everyone, on behalf of the Club - thank you!

Yours in football

President

Bears teams were in action over the weekend in semi finals with mixed results.

The U17s played EAP and recorded a 4-0 win to see them progress. Scorers for Weston were C Baxter, S Richardson, L Nichol & J Mitchell.

Weston's U19s took on Hamilton Olympic and went down 2-1 with S Turnbull netting for the Bears.
Best wishes to Zac Sneddon who was taken to hospital after a head injury and thankfully was released later that day. All the best young fella!

Next week sees both teams play at Edgeworth with the U17s taking on Hamilton at 9:00am and the U19s playing Broadmeadow at 11:00am.

Enjoy your week lads and..........

C'MON YOU BEARS!!!
