CTFor the penultimate round of season 2014 the Bears travelled to Ulinga Oval to face South Cardiff. Both teams had played midweek games - Weston played the Jets & Southy were in Melbourne playing in the FFA Cup.

The U19s got the day under way and although going down 1-0 they made plenty of chances that on another day will drop.

The U22s season came to and end via 2-1 loss but the turnaround in their season was really pleasing for such a young squad.

First grade were acutely aware of what was at stake - a chance to play off, at home, for the League. In their way was a South Cardiff team, on their home patch and looking to rebound after being eliminated from the FFA Cup.

Leading via a Carl Thornton (left ) goal in the 28th min Weston had the chance to extend their lead but missed a penalty and a 1-0 lead was taken to the sheds. Southy, although reduced to 10, men took the game to the Bears and also won a penalty. They converted and it was Weston who were then searching for a winner. It duly arrived in the 87th minute when Mick Ryan fired home in a goal mouth scramble to give the Bears a super chance to claim the League.

The script writers got it perfect. Weston at home V the Jets, winner takes all.
