Round 9 saw the Bears travel to Lisle Carr Oval to take on the Blues.

U19s were up first and after trailing 1-0 at the break they eventually went down 3-1.

The U22s have found a nice grove lately and this continued against Charlestown. While it wasn't the 3 points a 2-2 draw at least aw a share of the points and their good run continue.

First grade were next in the televised 'game of the round'. If you have not seen this yet you can catch the replay on the home page.

The game ebbed and flowed from the kick off and both teams were up and down the park continually. It was the home side who struck first but this was cancelled out shortly after from a super cross field ball from Garry McDermott to find Jamie Subat who gathered well, headed for goal and nutmeged the outrushing Blues keeper.

Charlestown started to pressure the Weston goal and was clearly dominating but it was another long ball that found Troy Hearfield, 4 yards offside, who then controlled and with time place the ball in the top left comer of the Bears goal. The half ended with both sides having multiple opportunities to have added goals.

The second half saw the Bears come out with new purpose but a loose ball across the back allowed an interception and an easy finish for the Blues striker. It was looking a long road back for Weston and with the loss of Connor Evans to injury a reshuffle was required. Nathan Morris moved to the middle and with a super pass found Gary McDermott busting into the Blues area. McDermott was then brought down and the spot kick awarded. Morris dispatched the ball into the onion bag bringing it back to 3-2.

Weston now had their tails in the air and the introduction of youngsters Sparre & Barner added extra spark. The added pressures finally paid of when Jamie Subat was clearly fouled in the box and up stepped Morris to tie the game up and ensure a share of the points for Weston.

A very exciting game with 2 differing styles of play and no doubt the style of play Weston are looking to execute will bring the rewards.

C'mon you Bears!!!

C'mon You Bears!!!

BAR TV were at Lisle Carr Oval for the NPL 'Match of the Round' between Charlestown & Weston. The match was a beauty and well worth a look.

Sunday, June 1, 2:45pm

maccaOn perfect day for football Rockwell Automation Park hosted the Match of the round between Weston & South Cardiff.

BAR TV were also on hand to live stream the game which was watched as far away as South America where Rob Macbeth tuned in (right).

The U19s were first of the rank and had a great 3-1 win. A really good result for this young team.

U22s are on a roll and registered a 3-2 victory to lift them further up the table.

First grade needed a win to kick start their positive beginning but it was Southy who came out of the traps and really put Weston under the cosh for the majority of the first half. This dominance was rewarded with a fine effort to lob Tim Pratt in the Bears goal. The Gunners had multiple opportunities to bury the game but failed to take them including striking the bar twice. 0-1 at half time.

Hold a mirror up to the first half, reverse the teams and that's how it unfolded. Weston came out to claw a goal back and despite numerous opportunities and some fine goalkeeping from the Southy number 1 the Bears just could not get purchase on the ball to steer it home.

It ended a disappointing 0-1 loss. What remains encouraging is the amount of chances created and the style of play that is sought - stay the course Bears!
