The Weston Workers Bears Football Club welcomed Broadmeadow Magic to Rockwell Automation Park for their round 11 clash.
Weston's U19s kicked the day off and had a 2-1 victory with Jake Sills and Isaac Peek scoring. This takes the young Bears back into the top three - well done lads.
The U22s won 3-1 and are now unbeaten in their last 5 games. Jake Millsteed (left), Hugh Spinaze & Thomas Sparre bulged the net for the Bears which moves them within striking distance of the leaders.
First grade after an ordinary last month were required to step up and step up they did.
Coach, Steven Piggott, made changes to the starting 11 with Jye Mackellar & Zac Sneddon coming into the starting side and after an even start it was Broadmeadow scored the games opening goal in the 18th minute when Hakin Canli found some space and gave his side a 1-0 lead.
The Bears went close on the half hour when a Nathan Morris free kick, after Jye Mackellar was fouled, was tipped over by Magic Keeper Chris Bowling.
Coach Piggot made 2 changes at half time with Robbie Turnbull & Jye MacKellar both replaced. Garry McDermott and Mick Ryan (right) got starts and instantly made an immediate impact.
Ten minutes into the 2nd stanza saw McDermott play a good ball into the channel with Jamie Subat taking the ball to the byline.
Subat's pinpoint cross found Jason Cowburn whose rose and headed into the net and it was back to 1-1 and game on.
In the 64th minute Mick Ryan was upended and what looked like a penalty and probable send off saw the referee award a free kick right on the edge of the 18 yard box.
Nathan Morris stepped up and delivered a special that dipped the ball over the wall and into the top right hand corner to give the Bears a 2-1 lead.
After some squeaky bum time, which saw Magic's keeper coming forward, the Bears held on for a fine win.
It was great to see all three grades get up, cheered on by a great support that really does show that we are all in this together.
The Olde Bears were also on hand to urge the boys on and the Club extends a huge thanks to you all for turning up.
Midweek rescheduled games away to Lakes are next and the Bears will need to refocus and approach these games properly against what will be a determined Lakes outfit.
C'mon You Bears!!!
