Weston welcomed old rivals West Wallsend to Thomas & Coffey Park for round 6 of the NBN State League on a chilly, windy, Mother's Day.
It was Weston from the get-go who were looking to set the pace and maintain possession with a number of early forays into the Westy area. This was rewarded in the 15th minute when Garry McDermott (left) found the net.
Weston continued to press and although Westy broke a few times it was the Bears that asserted their dominance with a goal to Jason Cowburn - Jason was clearly in the mood displaying superb touch around the box.
The Bears had a number of other chances and on another day could have had 4 by half time but instead took a well deserved 2-0 lead to the sheds.
An injury to Nathan Morris saw Joel Hardwick enter the game and the Bears continued on from where they left off. One of Westy's better chances saw Tim Pratt produce a superb triple save and keep the momentum with the Bears.
Weston by this point were really asking questions of West Wallsend and the play from back to front was very tidy. Some lovely interplay was developing up front and it was Jason Cowburn again in the 70th minute who benefited with a fine finish to make it 3 blot. But it was was a free kick with around 5 mins to play that stole the show. With Jason over the ball, just outside the area, he cannoned the shot into the wall. With the ball rebounding back to him on the full he then volleyed an unstoppable bullet into the Westy goal for Westons 4th and his hat-trick.
In what was a solid performance from back to front, the Bears now turn their attention to Olympic next week.
Weston's U23s got back on track with a 4-1 victory.
The U19s continued on with their promising start winning 1-0.
The First Touch U17s Colts reversed their recent poor results with a 4-0 victory.
