Weston bare claws early in win over Gunners

rmThe Bears travelled to South Cardiff on Easter Sunday for their season opener. The Gunners are always difficult on their home ground so to leave with all 3 points is a fantastic achievement.

It was a controlled performance from back to front for Weston who stitched together multiple periods of possession especially through the first half. This helped the Bears take a 2 goal lead to the sheds at half time with a fantastic left peg shot from outside the box by Rob Macbeth and a well struck penalty to Nathan Morris.

Southy stepped it up in the second half and eventually forced a penalty to make it a more tense ending but the Bears overall put in a great shift, at a tough venue, against last years grand finalists and were deserved winners.

The U23s had a tough day at the office, especially when they went down to 10 men and eventually losing 5-0. While not a flattering result this squad has played some great football through the pre-season and sometimes circumstances just conspire against you.

The Bears youth grade opened with a great result winning 5-1.

The U17s went down 4-2 but there were encouraging signs in the second half that should have seen the boys at least draw.

The Weston Workers Bears held their season launch in style at the Weston Workers Club on Friday night.
