The Bears welcomed Broadmeadow Magic to Thomas & Coffey Park for the top of the table clash round 13 clash.
Broadmeadow Magic have been the form side of the competition and the match was expected to be a difficult one from the get go but the task became even harder when the Match official made an appalling decision and awarded Magic a penalty in the 7th min from which Magic took the lead 0-1.
Broadmeadow were playing the more dominate of the 2 sides and they put the game as a contest to bed with 2 more first half goals in the 40th and 44th mins to shut any chance the Bears had of taking something from the game.
Mick Ryan almost gave the Bears a dream start to the 2nd half when he was on the receiving end of some strong work from Jamie Subat 1 min after the restart, but Ryan failed to get over his volley and the chance sailed over the bar.
The match official continued to confuse both sets of supporters with some strange decisions with no more stranger than the one he made in the 58th min. The decision was made inside the Magic box and was originally awarded a Magic free kick before doing an about turn a few seconds later and awarding the Bears a penalty. Nathan Morris this time stepped up to the spot but the penalty curse continued for the Bears as his shot cannoned into the crossbar for the Magic defence to clear to safety.
Weston were being outplayed and Darren Elkin looked to Super Sub Joel Page around the hour mark. Page had an immediate effect with a great chance on goal only minutes after coming into the game.
Broadmeadow topped off their dominance with another goal in the 83rd min when they played the ball over the Bears defence to give the Magic striker a 1 on 1 with Bears keeper Tim Pratt. They made no mistake and placed the ball into the back of the net to blow the score out to 0-4.
Jamie Subat gave the Bears some joy when he hassled well to drive his low shot past the Magic keeper with 2 mins remaining to make the score 1-4, which it stayed till the Referee blew the final whistle to end a frustrating afternoon at the office for the Bears.
U/23's should have at least got a point out of the game but like so many times this season, they made simple mistakes that cost them in the end and they went down 1-2. Luke Johnston the scorer for the Bears.
Youth League also had their chances to take all 3 points but had to settle for a 0-0 draw while the U/17's started the day off with a 1-2 loss against the NSWYS Girls side. Jake Millstead the scorer for the young Bears.
Next week the Bears are at Thomas & Coffey Park against the side that has fast become their bogey side, South Cardiff. The Bears will be keen to turn the tables on Southy and keep 2nd spot on the ladder. The Bears will also host A League side Newcastle Jets at Thomas & Coffey Park on Wednesday night in a Charity Exhibition Match, Kurri U/18's women v Cessnock U/18's women will precede the match with entry to the event being a gold coin donation to the Breast Cancer Foundation. Gates open at 4:30pm with the Bears v Jets Kick Off at 7:00pm.
