SENIORS

Weston made the trip to Broadmeadow for their round 8 NPL match on a day that was sure to be entertaining.

The table topping U19s were up first and looking to build on a super second half performance against Hamilton last week. In what is always a tough outing against Magic the game finished in a 1-1 draw.

The U22s were looking to bounce back after a defeat last week and did so in the best way via a 1-0 away win at Broadmeadow.

1st grade after a strong start to their season were now in the middle of a tough path of games and needed to find winning ways again - a tough ask against the heavily recruiting Magic.

After a cagey start by both teams it was Magic that jolted the game to life with the first goal of the contest. Shortly after, Magics persistence paid off again by forcing a turnover in the Bears half and making no mistake doubled their lead.
To the Bears credit they clawed their way ack into the game and it was a well deserved goal to the impressive Gary McDermott that gave the Bears a lifeline. Both sides had other chances to add to their tally but 2-1 was it at the break.

Weston came out with intent in the second half and were soon searching for the equaliser. Nathan Morris was dangerous from the dead ball and it was from one of his corners that Carl Thornton found himself more alone in the box than Sandra Bullock in Gravity to head home the equaliser. Weston continued to push and were rewarded again when Jamie Subat pounced to give Weston the lead.

With the pitch getting heavier and both sides making tactical subs the game twisted again when Magic equalised. 3-3 looked to be the outcome until injury time saw the Bears, who continued to look for the winner, were rewarded with a super back heel assist from McDermott to the substitute Millsteed who calmly placed the ball in the ol onion bag for the winner.

A super effort by the Club, in difficult conditions, against a quality opposition, in all grades, was definitely underpinned by that famous Weston spirit.

C'mon You Bears!!!

The Weston Workers Bears and inparticular the U19s would like to say farewell and best wishes to Iver Harsjoen.

Iver is a Rotary exchange student from Norway. He also is a footballer and has kept his touch by training with the Bears U19s since the trials last year.

Iver is heading home to Norway next week and we hope he takes great memories from his time in Australia and of his experience with Weston.

Best wishes and safe travels mate - it's been a pleasure.

C'mon you Norwegian Bears!!!
