Weston travelled to newly promoted Maitland for their 5th round NPL game.
Windy hill lived up to its name with very blustery conditions that would make it difficult for both sides throughout the day.
The U19s continued their terrific start to their season with a fine 2-0 win that takes them to the top of the table. Goal scorers for Weston were Jacob Golding and Joel Barner.
Back on track again are the U22s who via a jamie Subat goal won 1-0.
First grade were coming into their 3rd game in just over a week. A very heavy track against the Jets at home, an always difficult, physical, mid week, game against Southy and now a derby game away to Maitland was going to be a huge test of the squads resilience.
In what was a difficult opening period where the ball was clearly affected by the wind it was Maitland applying early pressure. Weston were having their moments too and Garry McDermott went closest with a delicate chip attempt that landed on the roof of the net. Tim Pratt was called into action and saved well at the feed of Joel Wood but it was a difficult free kick that saw the breakthrough for Weston. Delivered by Morris and only partially cleared by Maitland the ball fell to McDermott who snapped a shot into the ground and going wide only to see Troy Hearfield meet it with his head and direct it into the ol onion bag. Both teams continued to battle each other and the wind until half time.
The second half saw much of the same. Both sides had clear opportunities to find the target and the wind continued to influence the flight and roll of the ball. Maitland looked towards the equaliser with some attacking subs and formation and the Bears countered with their own changes that eventually saw the game out and a valuable 3 points in the bag.
Weston are on the road again next week as they head to Lisle Carr Oval to take on the Charlestown City Blues.
