Back home at Rockwell Automation Park the Bears welcomed last years grand final opponents the Lambton Jaffas.
The U19s continued their great start to the season with a strong 3-0 victory.
The 22s showed plenty of ticker coming back from a 0-2 deficit to draw the game 2-2.
Much had been made of the grand final rematch and the Jaffa's heavy recruitment that included Michael Bridges.
It was Lambton who started the better and controlled long periods with Weston threatening periodically. The Jaffas in a nice move took a deserved lead but this was cancelled out a few minutes later when Robert Macbeth swooped to dispossess a Lambton defender, powered into the box and calmly slotted the ball into the onion bag. Both sides then threatened a number of times but the teams went to oranges at 1-1.
The second half saw Weston begin very brightly and begin the force the issue. Both keepers saw action but it was the Jaffas custodian who was doing the majority of the work. Gary McDermott was having a great game and it came as no surprise that he found himself in some space to receive a pass just inside the Jaffas box. Opening up his body he calmly lifted the ball across goal, bulging the net and giving the Bears a deserved 2-1 lead. Tim Pratt again showed why he's so highly rated with an outstanding reflex save late, late, in the game with the Bears then seeing it out for the win.
Next week Weston travel to South Cardiff in what is always a difficult opponent.
See you there and....
C'mon you Bears!!!
Back at Rockwell Automation Park the young Bears were hosting Football Mid North Coast.
It should be remembered this a representative set up and would pose a big challenge for our lads.
Again our boys were superb across all games. While some results may not have gone our way or slipped through our grasp, it is the lessons learnt that matter most - well done everyone!
