On a heavy pitch it was the Bears who struck first after 12 mins and the begining of a 7 goal haul for Weston.
There were a few notable moments through a game that saw goals to Robbie Turnbull and Jamie Subat. Carl Thornton scored a bomb from downtown. Chris Cousins slotted home with the last kick of the day and Mick Ryan (left) claimed a hat trick! Final score 7-2.
It was great to see the goals, that have always been in the team, flow to claim a well earned victory.
The U19s won 2-0 with a brace to Luke Campbell.
The U17s also won 2-0 with goals to Calum Baxter & Jordan Whitchurch.
The U14s had a little hiccup going down 3-0 to Hamilton with the U16s defeating Valentine 3-0. Goals in the 16s were scored by Mason Brett & Connor Heydon who grabbed a brace (a brace means 2... for you young uns!).
Well done everyone and.....
C'mon you Bears!!!
Weston welcomed the Jets youth to Thomas & Coffey Park on a dreary day that the Bears needed maximum points. Unfortunately it wasn't to happen for the black and whites but it certainly wasn't through a lack of effort, good play and some bad luck.
Weston started very brightly with an attempt at goal from the kick off and a flurry of corners followed. The young jets soon found their feet and the game began to open up a little more but it was the Bears who were asking the questions and were unlucky on a number of occasions either through wayward finishing or the post or bar, which were hit numerous times throught the game. Tim Pratt was also earning his keep with a string of fine saves and just as it looked to be locked at 0-0 at half time the Jets finished calmly and headed to the sheds 1 up.
The second half saw much of the same from both side but the Bears were just not converting and this was the telling stat to come out of the game. Credit is also due to the Jets stand in keeper who produced a number of goalbound saves. As the Bears pressed the game opened up and it was the Jets who capitalised from what should have been a Bears free kick to go on and score their second and look to seal the match. Weston continued to push forward and this pressure paid off with the Jets defence hesitating and Jamie Subat calmly finishing. Weston again had another couple of chances to square the game but again just could not bulge the net and the game ended in a frustrating 2-1 loss.
However, it was a fine performance by Weston who were assured at the back, creative and hard working in the middle, dangerous up front, on another day they could have had 6.
The under 19s took on NNSWIS in the top of the table clash and went down 0-1 in a tight game where the crossbar, again, was not a friend to the young Bears.
The U17s are finishing with a wet sail and played a great game winning 8-0 against the Emerging Athletes.
