The Bears travelled over the Blue Gum to the home of their nearest rivals, West Wallsend for the 2010 NNSW State League season opener.
West Wallsend didn't give the Bears time to settle into the new season and they should have scored when they hit the crossbar and then fired the rebound into the post with only 3mins of the game played.
The return of Jamie Subat was a major signing for the Bears and he proved his worth after only 8mins when he gathered the ball wide on the right, cut infield to the corner of the 18 yard box and fired a bullet shot into the top left corner to give the Bears a 1-0 lead.

Coach Michael Boogaard was pleased, describing it as a good hit out considering the amount of recent rainfall.
