Keep your heads held high guys - still lots to play for!
C'mon you Bears!!!
The Bears travelled to Edgeworth to take on the Eagles with everything to play for. Coming off a shellacking against Lambton last week Weston let their football and effort do the talking.
Weston were working hard early with Edgy creating a number of chances and eventually finding the breakthrough. The Bears had their chances and a goalmouth scramble resembled a pinball game before being cleared by the Edgy defence and they did enough to take their lead to the sheds.
Weston started to the second half bright, searching for an equaliser and began to find firmer footing in the game. The 60th minute saw a flare up between 2 players and the red produced to send Edgy's Joel Wood for an early shower. Weston really began to step it up and in the 72nd minute Nathan Morris swing in a free kick that was popped out of the defence to the 18 yard line where Gary McDermott controlled and volleyed in the the goal - a super strike.
The Bears continued to press with Nathan Morris and Jake Barner going close but the game was to end 1-1 with extra time up next.
While the Bears had most of the running in both parts of extra time they just couldn't force the winning goal and the game would be decided by penalties.
Prevail the boys did and they took the shootout 6-5 in what is always a tense situation.
A week is a long time in football - and this week has seen another chapter entered to this Clubs great history by a bunch of guys with a never say die attitude. To top it all off was the performance of the young players in this squad. They were immense and will learn so much from this and the superb, experienced, players around them.
C'mon next week!!!
