Bears young gun Jake Millsteed has received a call up to the NBN select side that will take on the Newcastle Jets.
Jake joins Carl Thornton in the select team as the Bears representatives.
His selection is just reward for his efforts and reflects the old saying of 'you only get out what you put in'.
Congratulations from all of us here at Weston Jake and ....
C'mon you Bears!!!
Weston welcomed South Cardiff to Rockwell Automation Park for their round 16 clash.
The Bears U17s got the day off to a fine start again with a 3-1 victory. Netting for the Bears were J Golding with L Doyle snaring a brace.
Up next were the U19s who turned in a fine performance to win 3-0. Goals were scored by J Montgomery with H Spinaze contributing well with a brace.
The U23s had their chances but went down in a tough game 0-1.
The first grade encounter saw two teams barely separated on the ladder produce just as tight a game. As the first half progressed it was clear there was a no nonsense approach from both sides that negated any clear opportunities developing. With halftime upon us, South Cardiff struck with a deftly placed shot to a top corner to beat the whistle and take a lead to the sheds.
The second half was much the same with Weston struggling to break down a tough defence. The Introduction of Mick Ryan definatey gave the Bears a lift and the ball started to be zipped around a little more. Zac Sneddon was another who was introduced as the Bears began to press. This in turn opened the game up and Southy also had a number of opportunities to put the game to bed.
Captain Cousins was thrown forward and almost scored just sending his header over. Further chances for Weston were created then squandered until minutes into added on time when Zac Sneddon controlled a bouncing ball to steady and shoot from the edge of the 18 into the onion bag securing a point for the Bears.
Other action today saw the Bears U15s State League team go down to Hamilton 3-0.
Two of Weston's young teams were in action today and saw some great results.
The U14s had a strong 4-0 win over Maitland. Scorers for the Bears were B Mortimer, Z Skippen with J Brownlow bagging a brace.
Our U16s also took on Maitland and grabbed all three points in a 1-0 victory. Netting for the Bears was M Rees.
Well done guys on your games and for represening the Bears so well.
And remember......
C'mon you Bears!!!
The U14s belting out the club song - great stuff guys!
