Congratulations to the Bears U17s on clinching the U17 State League premiership.
The league was won after a 3-0 victory over Lambton at Rockwell Automation Park.
Congratulations to everyone involved. This team plays disciplined, smart, football that, in turn, brings results.
Well done guys on a super season - now the finals!
C'mon you Bears!!!
Round 18 brought a number of scenarios to the contests at Rockwell Automation Park.
First up were the U17s. Quite simply they have been outstanding all year.
Disciplined, clinical and always developing they claimed the U17 State League premiership with a 3-0 victory. Goal scorers for Weston were M Fisher, C
Robinson & B Millar. Congratulations to everyone involved in this team for your efforts all season.
The U19s have also seen great improvement recently and they settled this time with a share of the points in a 1-1 draw.
The young 23s also saw great improvement and while results paint one story the way this group looked to play each week will certainly stand them in good stead for the future. They too had a share of the points drawing 2-2.
First grade faced an unusual scenario. Win and they could go second - lose and they could be out - that's how tight it was at the top of the table.
Conceding in the first 5 minutes wasn't the ideal start but the Bears were well and truly in the game and could have had a couple of goals themselves - as it
transpired that wasn't to happen. However, after Weston's recent heroics I'm sure, even when they found themselves down 4-0 three quarters of the way into the first half, there might have been some of the Bears faithful waiting for 'the comeback!'.
It didn't happen this week and as the game wore on it only got worse when Rob Macbeth was marched. In the end the final whistle was welcomed and Weston found themselves touched up 8-0.
It was just one of those days....
However, with results going the Bears way in the other fixtures we are semi final bound and will take on Edgeworth at Edgy next week.
A week is a long time in football and semi final football is a different animal - and that is all we need to know.
So.........
C'mon you Bears!!!
Three of Weston's junior teams saw action today.
The U14s took on Hamilton and had their first blip of the season in a 2-1 loss. Finding the net for the Bears was Brayden Mortimer.
The U15s played South Cardiff and had fine 4-2 win. Goals came via a brace to Brock Lewsam & Jed Horder. The U15s finished their season in 5th place and improved markedly over the season defeating two of the competition favourites along the way.
Our U16s also saw action and had a fine 2-1 victory over Cooks Hill. Blake Rutherford and Tom Newman netted for the Bears.
Well done everyone on your efforts today in the black and white stripes.
Remember 1st grade are playing for a finals place tomorrow against Lambton. So... head down to Rockwell Automation Park and get the boys home.
C'mon you Bears!!!
