Saturday saw a number of Bears teams in action with super performances across the board.
Rockwell Automation Park saw 3 games.
The U23s took on Lakes first up in a catch up game and belted out the song at the end after a 1-0 victory courtesy of a goal from jason Cowburn.
Up next were the U17s who took on Charlestown. In what was a tight game the young Bears finally asserted themselves and ran out 3-1 winners and in turn moves to the top of the table. Goals to T Sparre and a brace to C Robinson.
The U19s also faced Charlestown and they too cleared their throats and sang the song after a great 1-0 result. Goalscorer for the Bears was J Millsteed.
Other games today saw..
The U14s continue their run in a 2-0 victory over Lambton with B Mortimer and Z Skippen bulging the net for the Bears.
The U15s State League team had a fantastic result over Hamilton winning 3-1. To top off a great result from the steadily improving young Bears, Brock Lewsam was seen walking off the field with the match ball stuck up his shirt after netting a super hatrick.
Our U16s also took on Charlestown and in a tough encounter came away with a share of the points in a 1-1 draw. Hitting the target for the Bears was J Ellis.
All up, what a fantastic day. Even more pleasing is the positive manner in which the results were gained. Well done to all involved and ...
C'mon you Bears!!!
A huge congratulations to Nigel Boogaard for his call up to the A-League All Stars team to face Manchester United.
Nigel is well known to the Bears playing in the 2004 premiership winning team and also going on to represent Australia. His father Michael is also a Newcastle football icon and a premiership winning Bears coach - who will be proud as punch.
From all of us at Weston Nigel, all the very best from your friends in the Coalfields.
Check out the story online in the Newcastle Herald.
The Bears travelled to Wanderers Oval to take on Broadmeadow.
The U17s got the day off to a flyer with a fantastic 5-0 win. The scorers were L Nichol, J Golding, B Millar and a brace to L Doyle.
Weston U19s were on the wrong side of a 4-1 scoreline.
The young U23s also went down losing 3-1.
With first grade looking to get back to winning ways a nicely worked goal in the 15th minute saw Jamie Subat square a ball to Nathan Morris for him to bulge the net and give the bears a lead they would take to the sheds at half time.
With the game wearing on Broadmeadow snared an equaliser and then in the last 10 minutes found the net again to take the lead. Weston had opportunites in the final minutes to only be frustrated by the post and the game ending in a 2-1 loss.
